Chiropractic Tip of the Month: Perfect Posture
Your mother was right when she told you to stand and sit up straight. Not only does proper posture help you appear healthier than a slouching frame but it also promotes better musculoskeletal and organ function. The foundation of spinal health is stable postural control and normal neutral alignment.
Neck and back pain sufferers commonly demonstrate predictable patterns of muscle imbalance. Some muscles tend to be excessively tight and overpowering, whereas others become weak and elongated. Also, improper posture excessively stretches or compresses joints and can lead to premature degenerative arthritis.
When viewed from behind, the base of the skull, shoulders and hips should be horizontally level and the center of the skull should align with the center of the pelvis. From the side, a vertical line should bisect the ear canal, shoulder, hip, knee and side of the ankle. When seated, the horizontal and upper body vertical line alignments should remain unchanged.
Please call the clinic to schedule a posture check with one of our chiropractors.

Naturopathic Tip of the Month: Replenishing Lost Electrolytes
If your aim this fall is to get in shape, don’t forget to incorporate a balanced electrolyte drink into your workout routine to optimize results. Stay away from drinks such as Gatorade and Powerade as they contain added sugar, often in the form of artificial sweeteners which the body cannot fully break down. Try the following recipe and take this with you to the gym during your strenuous workouts.
Also, as there are many variations on these drinks, seek the advice of your Naturopathic Doctor to determine which electrolyte drink is most appropriate for you!
Basic Electrolyte Drink:
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
4 tsp honey
4 tsp lemon juice
1 liter water
